MINT PDO Threads

What is it?

PDO (polydioxanone) Threads are made from suture material very similar to those used in surgeries. The PDO Threads (smooth, spiraled or barbed) will be inserted under the skin through a minimally invasive procedure which helps hold the skin up against the effects of gravity. Once the threads are inserted the body responds by sending nutrients to the threads, which aid in producing collagen and elastin. MINT Lift/PDO Thread lift procedure targets sagging jowls, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, unwanted midface wrinkles, sagging neckline, undefined jaw lines, etc. to lift and tighten skin. PDO thread lifting results are temporary and the lifting effect from the procedure may vary from patient to patient. Continued maintenance and repeating the procedure every 12-18 months is recommended to maintain the desired effect.

What to expect?

A thorough consultation is required prior to a thread lift procedure, to determine if the patient is a good candidate. The procedure itself is relatively quick and no cutting or incisions are involved; local anesthetic is typically all that is required for patients to remain comfortable throughout.
The threads integrate into the skin’s tissue and are inserted into the skin via a cannula and are pulled to produce a lifting effect.
There is minimal downtime involved with a MINT thread lift. Many of our patients find they can resume their everyday activities shortly after treatment. Some lifting can be seen immediately post-procedure. The body absorbs PDO threads in 6-8 months after insertion, but because MINT threads stimulate the production of collagen, results will continue to develop for a number of months.
Results can last up to one year, or more with good skin integrity. A MINT PDO thread lift can also be used in combination with fillers for optimized lifting and augmentation.

Pre-Care

  • Do not drink alcohol or smoke 1-2 days prior to and after your procedure
  • Discontinue the use of Aspirin or other anti-inflammatory 3-5 days before the procedure
  • Consult your prescribing physician before discontinuing any blood thinners
  • Adequate hydration is essential, drink at least 6 – 16.9 oz water bottles the day prior to your procedure and at least one 16.9 oz water bottle 1- 2 hours before your procedure

Post-Care

  • Patient may go back to everyday life (i.e. eating, walking, etc.) right after the procedure.
  • Swelling may be present after the procedure but the use of ice packs for 30 minutes for a few days will help lessen the swelling.
  • Patient should avoid washing hair and taking a shower for the next 24 hours after the procedure.
  • When washing face after 24 hours, gently wash the area.
  • Patient should avoid drinking or smoking for 1-2 weeks to prevent possible infection. Smoking and drinking can slow down the healing process.
  • Patient should avoid aggressive or prolonged chewing, wide yawns, and big smiles for up to 1 month.
  • Patient should avoid lying down either in a prone or side position within 4 hours after the procedure to decrease the possibility of the movements of threads. It is recommended that the patient sleeps on their back for the next 3-5 days to prevent the movement of threads.
  • Patients should avoid headstands, yoga, strenuous workouts, and exaggerated facial expressions for about 2-3 weeks (avoid dental treatments during this time if possible).
  • Patients should avoid deep facial massages for the next couple of months, but laser treatments may be done after one month from the procedure.
